Youth Program at the 2009 GOSH conference

Last year, a Youth Program was held at the Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Conference held at the Portland Convention Center on March 10, 2009.  View photos below. Are you, your students or your class interested in joining us at Youth Day GOSH 2011? Contact Dede.

  • We had over 50 people in attendance, including a large group of students from Sabin-Schellenberg Professional Technical Center in Milwaukee.  The kids were great and were engaged for the whole program examining how they can protect themselves on the job as young workers.  They did a lot of hands on activity that demonstrated the risks of workplace injury, and how to prevent them.
  • Some of the topics covered included:
    • Worker rights  This covered Oregon’s Youth Bill of Rights  from the Multnomah County Youth Commission  as well as young worker rights.
    • Ergonomics
    • Hearing conservation from the Dangerous Decibels Program
  • The students were also able to explore the GOSH exhibit hall.
  • Finally, as part of the program, we showed them the winning entries in our high school workplace safety and health video contest.

We thank all of the people who made this program possible!
